Chicago State University’s X Account Still Private One Year After Tinubu’s Certificate Controversy
The restriction began in August 2023, shortly after opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar requested court approval to subpoena CSU’s records to clarify discrepancies in Tinubu’s academic background.
Chicago State University’s X account has remained locked to public view for over a year following widespread criticism related to President Bola Tinubu’s academic records.
As of August 31, 2024, the CSU X account is accessible only to confirmed followers, displaying a notification that “These posts are protected. Only confirmed followers have access to @ChicagoState’s posts and complete profile.” This measure was taken amid scrutiny over the authenticity of President Tinubu’s academic certificates from the university.
The restriction began in August 2023, shortly after opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar requested court approval to subpoena CSU’s records to clarify discrepancies in Tinubu’s academic background. Tinubu, in response, sought to block the release of his academic records and implicated a CSU clerk in irregularities surrounding a certificate issued in his name.
Despite legal battles, including a Nigerian Supreme Court decision upholding Tinubu’s election victory, the controversy continues to fuel debate. CSU has not provided further clarification on the continued privacy of its X account, as attempts to contact the university for comment were unsuccessful.
