A 500-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been tragically shot dead during a recent cult-related incident on the university's campus. The incident is believed to be part of an ongoing rivalry between cult groups within the institution. Three other students were injured in the attack and were subsequently rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the university, causing panic among students and staff who sought refuge during the violence. Just days before this event, a separate clash between rival groups erupted in the Ekiadolor area near the university, resulting in alleged fatalities. The tension escalated, spreading to UNIBEN's Ugbowo campus, where this fatal attack took place.

A viral video from the scene depicts a red car riddled with bullet holes, and the lifeless body of the victim being removed from the vehicle and placed in the back of a pickup van.

Efforts to obtain a response from UNIBEN's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, were unsuccessful as she did not respond to messages sent via WhatsApp. The police spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that he had not been informed about the incident at the time.
