In an extraordinary achievement, 18-year-old Daya Brown, hailing from Atlanta, has not only gained admission to more than 50 esteemed universities across the United States but has also been awarded over $1.5 million in scholarship funds.

Daya, a graduate of Westlake High School, strategically approached the college application process, dedicating a few hours each day to meticulously apply to a diverse array of institutions. Her primary objective was to provide her parents with financial peace, emphasizing her commitment to ensuring they are not burdened by student loans.

Daya initiated her application journey during quarantine in her sophomore year, curating a list of schools aligned with her interests in mass communications or film. To enhance her profile, she actively engaged in extracurricular activities to showcase her multifaceted talents beyond academics.

Highlighting the importance of extracurriculars, Daya stated, "That was my chance to showcase who I was as a person and who I was as a scholar. I think a lot of people think that if you’re smart, you can’t be cool. So I found a way to showcase brilliance [and] still have fun while you’re doing it."

Out of the plethora of choices, Daya plans to pursue visual media studies with a minor in journalism at Duke University. Acknowledging the challenges she faced, she emphasized the importance of passion, stating, "No, it wasn’t easy. Yes, you have to stay up many nights to get the work done if you want the GPA, but at the same time, it wouldn’t feel like such a burden if it’s your passion. I wake up every day, happy about what I do."
