Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, is scheduled to deliver the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th combined Convocation Lecture of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) today, April 23, 2026.
According to a statement signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Ebi Eno Ibanga, FNIM, the lecture is titled “The Nigerian University System and National Defense in the 21st Century.” It will hold at the Senate Chamber, Ikot Akpaden Campus, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, beginning at 2:00 p.m., while guests are expected to be seated by 1:45 p.m.
The lecture is expected to create an intellectual platform for examining how the Nigerian university system can contribute more effectively to national defence strategy and broader policy formulation in the 21st century.
General Musa, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s contemporary security architecture, was born on 25 December 1967 in Kaduna State. He began his military career at the Nigerian Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps, later building a distinguished record across command, staff, and instructional roles within and outside Nigeria, including international peacekeeping operations.
He played a key operational role in counterinsurgency efforts in the North-East, notably as Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, where he led coordinated military operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP. His tenure emphasized joint-force collaboration, civil-military relations, and stabilisation efforts in conflict-affected communities.

In June 2023, he was appointed Chief of Defence Staff, where he oversaw the Armed Forces of Nigeria and drove reforms aimed at strengthening inter-service coordination, operational efficiency, and response to evolving security threats across the country.
He was later appointed Minister of Defence in December 2025 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking a continuation of his long-standing involvement in Nigeria’s security leadership.
