Prof. Shuaib AbdulRaheem, a former vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, has advocated for the establishment of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) stations within tertiary institutions to combat the widespread issue of drug abuse among youths.

AbdulRaheem made this assertion while addressing journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, emphasizing the urgent need for government intervention in addressing the adverse effects of drug abuse prevalent among the youth.

AbdulRaheem expressed concern over the prevalence of drug abuse, noting that higher institutions have unfortunately become hubs of miscreants, drug addicts, and anti-social behavior.

Highlighting the need for proactive measures, AbdulRaheem urged the government to establish NDLEA duty posts in every institution to monitor and prevent any suspected behavior that could escalate into serious issues.

He emphasized that while the responsibility lies with parents and guardians to monitor their children and discourage them from engaging in anti-social activities, government intervention is crucial in tackling the root causes of drug abuse.

AbdulRaheem emphasized the importance of vigilance in the selection and screening of students for admission, as well as monitoring their conduct to ensure they lead disciplined and drug-free lives.
