In an effort to uphold educational standards and safety, the Ebonyi Government has taken decisive action against illegal and substandard schools within the state. Senior officials have expressed concern over the proliferation of such institutions, emphasizing the risks they pose to children's education and well-being.

Mr. Peter Nwogbaga, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Francis Nwifuru on Secondary Education, underscored the severity of the situation during a recent inspection of schools in Ohaukwu Local Government Area. He pointed out the alarming trend of churches converting their premises into makeshift classrooms, contributing to the spread of unapproved educational facilities.

The government's stance was further reinforced by Mrs. Ifoma Agwu, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Primary Education, who condemned the practice of conducting classes under trees and in unapproved environments. She issued a stern warning against operating unauthorized schools, asserting that the government would not tolerate such disregard for educational standards.

As part of its efforts to sanitize the private school system, the Ministry of Education conducted inspections and subsequently closed several establishments found to be operating illegally or failing to meet minimum standards. Among the schools affected were Shalom Nursery and Primary School, Cathedral Methodist Nursery and Primary School, Holy Family Nursery and Primary School, and Christian Child Nursery and Primary School.

In response, the proprietors of the affected schools claimed to have obtained government approvals for their operations. However, the government remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring that all educational institutions adhere to prescribed standards and regulations.

This crackdown on illegal and substandard schools reflects the Ebonyi Government's dedication to providing quality education and safeguarding the welfare of students across the state.
