Emezue's abduction occurred while he was refueling his car at a filling station in Umuahia. The perpetrators, whose identities remain unknown, seized him alongside an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card belonging to his wife.

Reports indicate that Emezue's release followed the payment of a substantial ransom by his family to the kidnappers. However, during his time in captivity, Emezue endured mistreatment at the hands of his abductors, necessitating urgent medical attention upon his release. He has since been transported to an undisclosed hospital for immediate medical care.

Although official statements from the Abia State University management, the Abia State Police Command, and the family of the university official are yet to be issued confirming his release, sources close to Emezue in Umuahia have verified the news.
