Empowering Artisans: FEDPOFFA SDC Partners with NBTE to Enhance Skill Development

The Federal Polytechnic Offa Skill Development Centre (FEDPOFFA SDC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) have joined forces to initiate comprehensive skill development programs for artisans in Offa and Oyun Local Governments. 

The collaboration aims to train and certify artisans across various trades, fostering economic growth and national development.

At a meeting held on March 8th, 2024, stakeholders from the artisan community convened at the Polytechnic Mini Campus to discuss the implementation of skill development initiatives. Dr. Bello, the Ag. North Central Zonal Director of NBTE, emphasized the importance of the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) in enhancing employment opportunities and addressing the skills gap in the labor market.

The establishment of the Skill Development Centre, championed by the Polytechnic's management under Engr. Dr. Kadiri, signifies a commitment to equipping artisans with contemporary skills aligned with industry standards. Trades such as welding & fabrication, garment making, and GSM repair have been approved for certification under the NSQF, with plans for further expansion based on available resources.

Engr. Tope Ojo, the SDC Liaison Officer, highlighted the benefits of collaboration among artisan trades, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and shared understanding. Mr. Sulyman Yusuf, Executive President of the Offa Artisan Congress, commended the initiative and urged for continued support to empower artisans economically through grants and modern tools provision.
