Enugu State Defies IPOB Sit-At-Home Order: Educational Activities Proceed Amid Security Measures
The Enugu State Government has made it clear that it has not declared today as a public holiday or a day of inactivity, contrary to rumors circulating in public spaces. This clarification was made in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Aka Eze Aka, yesterday in Enugu.
In opposition to the Independent People Of Biafra’s(IPOB) directive, which declared Thursday, May 30th as a sit-at-home, both the Enugu State Government and Peter Mbah have announced that educational activities will proceed as usual. They also added that security personnel have been dispatched to schools to counter any threats to safety.
IPOB said the day was set aside to honour those who died during the civil war between July 6, 1967, and January 15, 1970.

Aka stated, "There is no room for illegal IPOB activities in the state." He urged residents and pupils to go about their exams and normal activities today, assuring them of adequate security.
"We note with particular concern IPOB’s statement that the WAEC board should not endanger the lives of students because the day is not safe for any individual in Biafra territory," he said.

"This is unacceptable to us," Aka emphasized. "Not only because of the well-known position of the Enugu State government on illegal sit-at-home orders, but also because of the far-reaching consequences of a whole generation of Enugu children failing to sit for a fundamental subject such as Mathematics in one year."
The commissioner stressed that Igbo excel in industry, education, and human capital development. He stated that any pronouncement or action denying children their rights to education, which is their ticket to the future, was offensive.
