ESUT Calls For Stronger Collaboration To Tackle Climate Change
The Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) on Friday marked the 2026 World Environment Day with an extensive campus-wide ecological advocacy campaign and calls for stronger collaboration to reduce the impacts of climate change.
The commemoration aligned with the official United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) global theme: "Inspired by Nature – For Climate. For Our Future." The event positioned the university as a leading hub for regional climate policy and practical ecological stewardship in southeastern Nigeria.
A key tactical focus of the day was an aggressive sanitation exercise targeting single-use plastic waste and discarded water sachets across critical campus sectors.
Speakers at the event including the Vice-Chancelor, Prof Aloysius-Michaels OKolie (represented) and the key note speaker, Prof Ajadike were unanimous in calling for stronger collaborations between the institution and external climate actors to mitigate harmful substances within the environmental ecosystem

The faculty continues to advocate for policy integration with bodies like the Enugu State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to support structured climate education and youth stewardship.
University stakeholders reiterated that practical exercises such as World Environment Day are vital for equipping the next generation of urban planners, architects, and environmental managers with real-world solutions to fight the global climate crisis.
