ESUT Dismisses Six Staff Over Misconduct

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has dismissed six staff members for serious offences, including certificate forgery, sexual harassment, and academic fraud. The decision, announced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, follows a meeting of the university's Governing Council.

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has dismissed six staff members following their involvement in serious misconduct, including certificate forgery, sexual harassment, academic fraud, and other offences. The decision was announced by Vice Chancellor Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie during a press briefing on Wednesday in Agbani, Enugu State.

The dismissals resulted from the 179th meeting of the University’s Governing Council, chaired by Pro-Chancellor Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa. The infractions leading to the dismissals included extortion, manipulation of results, holding multiple full-time positions, preparing fake transcripts, and misappropriating funds amounting to N98,259,314.65.

The Governing Council expressed strong disapproval of the increasing fraudulent activities among staff and has instructed the university management to implement stringent measures to curb these vices. The Council also emphasized the need for strict sanctions against examination malpractices and directed the Vice Chancellor to expedite disciplinary actions, including employing a "shame strategy" for handling such issues.

Additionally, Vice Chancellor Okolie praised Governor Barr. Peter Mbah for his support, which facilitated the successful accreditation of the Nursing Sciences and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science programs and funding for new programs. The Council remains committed to advancing the Governor’s innovative goals for the university.
