Negotiations between the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) are nearing completion, with discussions in the final stages. An update from Abuja reveals that the Federal Ministry of Education held a meeting with the Joint Action Committee (JAC), SSANU, and NASU to finalize negotiations. Hon. Yusuf Sununu stated, "We're committed to ending this strike as soon as possible through unity and cooperation," adding that substantial progress has been made.
The FGN is urging stakeholders to collaborate with the Ministry to ensure that Nigeria's education sector remains resilient and aligned with the President's Renewed Hope agenda. The government reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of students and staff and acknowledged NASU's essential contributions to the education sector. Agreements promoting harmony between the government and the unions are expected to be upheld.
