Federal Polytechnic Oko Launches Go Green Initiative to Combat Erosion
Federal Polytechnic Oko in Anambra State inaugurates the 'Go Green Planting of Palm Trees and Other Economic Trees Project' to mitigate erosion, promote environmental sustainability, and foster economic growth.
Federal Polytechnic Oko has launched the 'Go Green Planting of Palm Trees and Other Economic Trees Project'. The initiative, spearheaded by the acting Rector, Dr. Uche Onyegbu, aims to counteract the adverse effects of deforestation by advocating for the planting of trees across its campuses in Ufuma and Atani. This is a move to curb erosion and promote environmental sustainability.

Dr. Onyegbu highlighted the critical role of trees in soil conservation and erosion control during the project's launch at the Oko extension site in Orumba North Local Government Area. He emphasized that beyond ecological benefits, tree planting offers economic opportunities and enhances the aesthetic value of the environment.
"I appreciate the pioneering efforts of Cletus Amaraegbu and the endorsement from veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Stephen Eboh, for their support of this significant environmental initiative," remarked Dr. Onyegbu.

The project received commendation from the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, who underscored its potential to stabilize ecosystems and mitigate climate change impacts. He urged widespread participation, suggesting that every student should plant at least one tree as part of the campaign.
In his address, Nollywood actor Chief Stephen Eboh praised Federal Polytechnic Oko for leading by example in sustainable practices. Meanwhile, former National Board for Technology Incubation member, Cletus Amaraegbu, encouraged the institution to harness the economic potential of high-yielding oil palm and coconut seedlings provided under the initiative.

Acting Registrar Obini Onuchukwu concluded with a call to end deforestation, attributing it as a major contributor to global warming. He expressed gratitude to Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and other stakeholders for their support in realizing the 'Go Green' vision.
The event culminated in a symbolic tree planting exercise involving dignitaries, management, and staff of Federal Polytechnic Oko, marking a significant step towards environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
