Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) participated in a workshop organized by TETFund in collaboration with Cognity Advisory, held at the Army Resource Centre in Abuja. The event, attended by over 100 professors, focused on enhancing collaboration between universities and local communities to stimulate economic growth.

During the workshop, TETFund's Executive Secretary, represented by Dr. Salutu Bakari, emphasized the significant economic losses resulting from the underutilization of university resources. He called for stronger partnerships between universities and their surrounding communities through Local Economic Development initiatives.

Lead facilitators, Professor May Nwoye of Nile University and Professor Olusiji Aina, discussed the importance of integrating entrepreneurial thinking into university curricula and expanding community outreach as vital components for driving economic growth in Nigeria.

Other notable speakers included Dr. Tope Toogun, Professor Mohammed Dauda of the University of Maiduguri, and Professor Maryam Koko of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. They underscored the value of learning from global best practices while tailoring strategies to fit local contexts, which they believe is essential for building a prosperous and sustainable future.

The four-day training aimed to equip university representatives with the knowledge necessary to enhance relationships with their communities and adopt local economic development strategies at the institutional level. FUBK was represented by the Director of Research, Innovation, and Development, Professor Kasimu Shehu, and the University Public Relations Officer, Jamilu Magaji.
