Federal University Gashua Appoints Professor Yakubu Ahmed Gaidam as 4th Substantive Vice-Chancellor
The Governing Council of the Federal University, Gashua (FUGASHUA), has announced the appointment of Professor Yakubu Ahmed Gaidam as the institution's 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement marks a significant leadership transition for the university. Professor Gaidam is set to succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, whose five-year tenure concludes on February 10, 2026.
The selection process began in late 2025 following a rigorous screening of candidates by the University’s Governing Council. Professor Gaidam emerges as the preferred choice to lead the institution into its next phase of academic and infrastructural expansion.
As a substantive Vice-Chancellor of a Federal Government-owned institution, Professor Gaidam will serve a single, non-renewable five-year term. He is expected to build upon the foundations laid by his predecessors, particularly in the areas of research output, staff development, and the integration of digital learning technologies.
FUGASHUA has recently seen a surge in academic excellence, including the recent promotion of 22 senior academic staff to the ranks of Professor and Reader. The appointment of Professor Gaidam is viewed by the university community as a vital step in maintaining this momentum and strengthening the university's standing among Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Official handover ceremonies are expected to be announced by the university administration in the coming weeks. For further updates and official statements, stakeholders are encouraged to visit the FUGASHUA Official Website.
