The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) in Zamfara State has officially matriculated 2,229 students, urging them to adhere strictly to the institution’s rules and regulations.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muazu Abubakar, revealed that out of 5,066 candidates who applied for admission, only 2,229 were successfully admitted. He further highlighted that, in line with the federal government’s policy, science-related courses had the highest number of enrolled students, totaling 1,030.

Professor Abubakar emphasized the importance of security, advising the new students to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agents or the appropriate university authorities. He assured the students that the institution prioritizes their safety and privacy.

“I want to assure you that your security and privacy will be guaranteed,” he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor also warned the students against violating the university’s rules, stressing that the administration would not tolerate offenses such as examination malpractice, cultism, sexual harassment, theft, drug abuse, and other social vices. He reminded them that penalties for such misconducts were explicitly outlined in the students’ handbook.

“Only those who are matriculated are considered bonafide students of the university,” Professor Abubakar reiterated. He further emphasized that degrees would only be conferred on students found worthy in both character and learning.

“Between the matriculation and convocation ceremonies, there are many pinnacles you must overcome before earning the right to wear the academic gown again,” he added.

The event was attended by university officials, staff, and the newly matriculated students, marking the beginning of an academic journey filled with responsibilities and expectations.
