Four UNILAG Scholars Honored with Fellowship by Academy of Medical Sciences

Four esteemed scholars from UNILAG have been inducted as Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Nigeria. Their investiture was held on Saturday, October 26, at the 2024 Annual General Meeting and 4th Induction Ceremony of the Academy, hosted at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

Four esteemed scholars from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been inducted as Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Nigeria. Their investiture was held on Saturday, October 26, at the 2024 Annual General Meeting and 4th Induction Ceremony of the Academy, hosted at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

The newly inducted Fellows include Prof. T.A. Samuel, Prof. Awodele, Prof. J. Akindele, and Dr. Ishola. Their addition strengthens UNILAG's representation within the Academy and underscores the institution’s commitment to excellence in medical sciences.

Several prominent UNILAG Fellows, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, OON, were present to welcome the new inductees. Other UNILAG scholars who are members of the Academy include Professors Abosede Afolabi, Alani Akanmu, Abayomi Okanlawon, Banjo, Afolabi Lesi, Oredugba, Osibogun, and Emeritus Professor Giwa-Osagie, among others.

The ceremony featured Dr. Mohammed Mustafa Lecky as the keynote speaker, who addressed the theme “Achieving Effective and Sustainable Reform of the Nigeria Health Sector in a Challenged Economy.” Dr. Lecky highlighted the urgent need for strategic reforms in the healthcare sector to ensure effective and sustainable improvements.

In her congratulatory remarks, Vice-Chancellor Ogunsola praised the newly inducted Fellows for their remarkable achievements and dedication to advancing medical science in Nigeria.
