Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) decorates Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Special Marshals and encouraged old members to keep the pace as the Unit is currently in the lead in the State.

Newly inducted members of the  Unit 32 Special Marshal, Federal University of Technology Akure , FUTA  were on 27th June decorated by the  the Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps. Speaking at the event, the Special Marshal State Coordinator, Ondo State Command, Special Marshal John Adeoba expressed excitement that new members were being decorated to fill the gap created by members who had retired from the University and left the State or even passed away. He noted that the Special Marshal Unit is a specialized arm of the Federal Road Safety Corps of men and women of integrity who give their best to ensure proper use of roads and minimize accidents.

He stressed that though the service of a Special Marshal was voluntary, it is required to be carried out wholeheartedly, investing strength, energy and resources to help humanity along the highway. He urged the new Special Marshals to ensure that they work within the guidelines of the Corps while delivering on the three major functions of the Unit which are traffic control, patrol and enlightenment, adding that enlightenment is major and important to ensure zero deaths on the highway.

Special Marshal Adeoba also hinted that the Corps, being an agency of the Federal Government is to be regarded with full complement and the kits properly handled to befit its status. He also made it clear that the kits, though purchased by individuals are the property of Federal Government as the membership and position of members are not transferrable, hence the Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) issued.

Congratulating the Vice-Chancellor over the caliber of men and women in the Unit 32 Special Marshal, which he tagged Elite Unit domiciled in the University, the Sector Commander, Ondo State, Federal Road Safety Corps, CC Ezekiel SonAllah expressed pride at the strength of the workforce in the Unit, particularly among the newly decorated members, one of which is the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Development, Professor Sunday Oluyamo. He noted that the relationship had been warm with regards to town, gown and sundry partnerships. He noted that the University was committed to ensuring safety of lives and property of people hence its provision of traffic control measures like speed bumps, zebra crossing lines and the recent construction of traffic light. He added that irrespective of all the measures taken, people of Nigerian descent seem to always take traffic laws for granted. This, he said is the reason why continuous enlightenment is necessary to remind people of how to safely use the roads. He congratulated the inductees and reminded them that they had been called to serve.

Earlier, the Unit 32 Coordinator, FUTA, Professor Obafemi Olubanjo disclosed that the decorated members had in October 2022 being inducted and were only being decorated and enlightened on the workings of the Unit.
