FUDMA Confirms Deceased Student Was Not a Bandit, Calls for Calm
The Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has refuted claims linking its late student, Saidu Abdulkadir, known as "Emir," to banditry.

The management of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has debunked claims linking one of its students, Saidu Abdulkadir, popularly known as "Emir," to banditry following his tragic death on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The University clarified that Abdulkadir was a bonafide student and not a criminal, as speculated in some reports.
According to an official statement from FUDMA, Abdulkadir was shot by security personnel after the commercial motorcycle he boarded allegedly failed to stop for interrogation. The motorcyclist had reportedly been under security surveillance for three days in connection with a recent bandit attack in the Safana area. The incident occurred when security operatives, attempting to stop the motorcycle for questioning, mistakenly shot Abdulkadir, leading to his unfortunate demise.
The University expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the student and extended its heartfelt condolences to his parents, fellow students, and the entire university community. The management also urged the general public to disregard any misinformation linking the deceased to criminal activities, emphasizing that until his death, he remained a dedicated student of the institution.
FUDMA has called for calm among students and the wider community as investigations into the incident continue. The University reassured stakeholders of its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students while cooperating with security agencies to prevent further occurrences of such tragic incidents.
