FUHSO Inaugurates Career Services Centre to Boost Workplace Employability and Soft Skills
In line with its commitment to equipping students with vital professional competencies and preparing them for future workplace success, the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), has officially inaugurated its Career Services Centre.
The historic event, held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Lecture Hall A, was themed “Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills.”
Performing the formal inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Aba Uba, emphasized the strategic importance of the Centre in preparing students for the realities of today's dynamic workplace. He noted that success in the contemporary global environment requires more than academic excellence and technical expertise. According to him, the Career Services Centre will serve as a vital bridge between classroom learning and the demands of the highly competitive labour market.
Professor Uba urged students and staff to take full advantage of the Centre's resources, mentorship opportunities, and counselling services. He reaffirmed the University's commitment to producing well-rounded graduates who excel not only in health sciences but also in leadership, communication, and other essential employability skills.

The ceremony featured a keynote presentation by Professor Alache Ooga Amali, a distinguished scholar from the Department of Guidance and Counselling, College of Education, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi. Delivering a lecture titled “Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills,” Professor Amali highlighted the critical role of emotional intelligence, clarity of expression, and active listening in career development and workplace success.
She explained that while technical competencies may open doors to employment, strong interpersonal skills are indispensable for fostering teamwork, resolving workplace conflicts, and achieving sustained professional growth.
Earlier, the Acting Director of the FUHSO Career Services Centre, Dr. Celina O. Aju-Ameh, delivered a welcome address in which she outlined the vision and objectives of the Centre. She described it as a strategic institutional hub dedicated to providing students with career guidance, professional development training, and life-skills mentorship as they prepare for their future careers.
The event attracted principal officers and senior members of the University community, reflecting management's collective commitment to student development and career readiness.
Goodwill messages were delivered by several participants, including the Director of Academic Planning and Control, Dr. Jeremiah J. Oloche; the Director of SIWES, Dr. Andrew Ichojo; the Head of the Department of Nursing Science, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Uba; and Dr. Suza Unode, who represented the University Librarian, Dr. Taiwo A. Akinde. The speakers pledged their support towards ensuring the successful integration of the Centre into the University's academic and student development framework.
Following a vote of thanks delivered by the Acting Director, Dr. Celina O. Aju-Ameh, the inauguration concluded on a highly successful and optimistic note, marking another significant step in FUHSO's efforts to prepare students for rewarding and impactful careers.
