FUHSO Secures Pre-Clinical Accreditation, FUHSTHO Approved For Housemanship Programme After MDCN Exercise

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted pre-clinical accreditation to the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) following a comprehensive accreditation exercise conducted on May 22, 2026.

The exercise was carried out by a 13-member MDCN delegation led by Dr. Nnameka Nwakama, who reportedly undertook a detailed assessment of the university’s academic structure, facilities, staffing, and compliance with regulatory standards.

The approval marks a significant milestone for FUHSO, coming barely one year after the current administration led by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Aba Uba, assumed office. Within the university community and beyond, the outcome has been described as a major institutional breakthrough in the effort to reposition the school’s medical programme.

In a parallel development, the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo (FUHSTHO) also received approval for the commencement of its Housemanship Programme. The accreditation is expected to strengthen clinical training capacity and expand opportunities for medical graduates undergoing practical professional training.
