The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), has expressed appreciation to stakeholders, institutions, staff, students, and supporters following the successful accreditation of the university’s MBBS programme.

In an appreciation message issued on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Senate, staff, students, and the wider university community, the Vice-Chancellor described the accreditation as a collective achievement made possible through sacrifice, resilience, teamwork, and sustained commitment toward establishing the institution as a centre of excellence in medical and health sciences education.
According to the statement, the accreditation process was challenging but ultimately successful due to the cooperation and contributions of various stakeholders, including government agencies, host communities, security institutions, students, and development partners.
The university specifically acknowledged the support of the Federal Government of Nigeria toward tertiary education and medical training, as well as the guidance and regulatory oversight provided by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Special recognition was also given to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and its Executive Secretary for strategic interventions in infrastructure, equipment, academic development, and institutional support, which the university said played a major role in strengthening its accreditation capacity.
The Vice-Chancellor further commended the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo (FUHSTHO), for its clinical support services and partnership in advancing medical education and healthcare delivery.

The Chief Medical Director and management team of the teaching hospital were also praised for their contributions toward meeting clinical training requirements necessary for the MBBS programme.
The statement additionally acknowledged the efforts of previous administrations of both the university and the teaching hospital, noting that the accreditation success was built upon foundations laid over the years.
The Governing Council, university management, academic and non-academic staff, students, parents, guardians, alumni, host communities, traditional institutions, and security agencies were equally appreciated for their support, patience, professionalism, and encouragement throughout the accreditation process.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the successful accreditation has further strengthened the institution’s resolve to sustain investments in quality teaching, research, infrastructure, discipline, and global best practices in medical education.
He noted, however, that the achievement also comes with greater responsibilities, urging members of the university community to remain united, disciplined, and committed to sustaining and surpassing the standards that earned the accreditation.

The Vice-Chancellor concluded by thanking all individuals and groups who supported the institution during difficult periods and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing medical education and healthcare training in Nigeria.
