The Federal University Lokoja, Faculty of Agriculture, held its 2025/2026 Academic Session Orientation Programme for newly admitted students on February 24, 2026, an inspiring gathering focused on innovation, leadership, and national development through agriculture.

At the event, OFAB Nigeria participated actively, with Dr. Rose Gidado delivering a powerful lecture titled:

“Agricultural Biotechnology Application for Nigeria’s Food and Nutrition Security Enhancement: Current and Future Prospects.”

Her presentation emphasized the transformative role of modern biotechnology, including genetic engineering, in improving crop productivity, reducing pesticide dependence, enhancing climate resilience, and ensuring sustainable food systems in Nigeria.

In his inspiring address, Prof. S. O. Olufeagba, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, challenged the 160 newly admitted students to embrace discipline, creativity, and excellence, reminding them that agriculture today goes beyond traditional tools to include biotechnology, climate-smart farming, precision agriculture, mechanization, and agribusiness innovation.

OFAB Nigeria remains committed to building student champions, strengthening science communication, and promoting evidence-based adoption of agricultural biotechnology for national development.

A major highlight of the event was the symbolic planting of Pod Borer-Resistant (PBR) cowpea, reinforcing the message of science-driven agriculture, innovation, and practical learning.
