FULOKOJA Student Union to Launch Joint Security Initiative for Off-Campus Safety
Federal University Lokoja's Student Union (FULSU) is partnering with security agencies and landlords to address rising insecurity in off-campus areas like Crusher and Felele.
The Federal University Lokoja (FULOKOJA)Student Union (SU) has announced a collaborative security initiative to tackle the growing insecurity affecting students living off-campus. The measure comes in response to a series of robberies and harassment by unidentified assailants in the Crusher and Felele neighborhoods, which are popular student residential areas.
At a meeting on Sunday, November 24, 2024, held at Crusher Primary School and Felele Primary School, FULOKOJA SU President, Comrade Benjamin Olorunfemi, reassured students of prompt action. “We will do everything possible to apprehend these criminals,” he stated, emphasizing efforts made with local vigilante groups, chiefs, and police. He urged students to avoid protests and embrace dialogue, noting ongoing discussions with military representatives.
The union also unveiled plans for the Student Security Aid (SSA) initiative, aimed at providing swift security and first aid assistance to students in distress. Comrade Lazarus Bitrus, FULOKOJA SU's Financial Secretary, advised students to adopt responsible lifestyles, while Welfare Secretary Comrade Ebenezer Asojo suggested carrying whistles for emergency alerts.
The Felele campus hostel remains unopened due to security concerns, but FULSU's coordinated efforts aim to ensure student safety in the area.
