On September 24, 2024, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, inaugurated the 8th Students' Union Executive and a new Student Representative Council (SRC). The event took place at the Council Chambers of the College of Health Sciences, Adankolo, where Professor Akinwumi challenged the new student leaders to prioritize responsible leadership, foster innovation in student governance, and enhance campus security.

Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of impactful leadership beyond titles. He encouraged the newly sworn-in executives to ensure a safe learning environment while promoting transparent governance, academic excellence, and community engagement. Reflecting on a recent tragedy involving a student, he urged the new leaders to collaborate closely with the university's security unit and initiate awareness campaigns to mitigate safety risks on and off campus.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Benjamin Timothy, the new Student Union President, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, pledging to uphold the institution's values and meet the expectations of both the management and the student body.
