The College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has held a workshop focused on the implementation of the university’s research ethics policy, reinforcing institutional commitment to integrity and responsible research practices.

The workshop, titled “Stepping Down FUNAAB Research Ethics Policy into the COLAMRUD Framework,” took place on May 12, 2026, at the COLAMRUD Board Room and brought together members of the University Research Ethics Committee, heads of departments, professors, researchers, and academic staff.

Declaring the session open, the Dean of COLAMRUD, Prof. Emmanuel Fakoya, described the engagement as timely, stressing that research remains central to the university’s mandate. He emphasized that the credibility and societal relevance of research depend on strict adherence to ethical standards.

Prof. Fakoya, who also serves as Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Directors (CODAD), identified growing concerns around plagiarism, data integrity, authorship disputes, confidentiality, informed consent, and responsible research conduct as key issues necessitating stronger institutional enforcement of ethics policies.

He explained that the objective of the workshop was not only to create awareness of the FUNAAB Research Ethics Policy but also to localize its implementation within COLAMRUD’s operational framework. He noted that the college’s strong involvement in community-based research and rural development studies makes ethical compliance particularly critical.
