In a proactive initiative to bolster campus safety, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in partnership with Jobi Consulting Firm, has organized a comprehensive 3-day Fire Safety Training for key staff members. The training, which began on July 26, 2024, at the Postgraduate School Auditorium, targeted personnel from the Environmental Unit, the Directorate of Works and Services, and members of the University's Security Committee.

The opening address was delivered by Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo. Prof. Kehinde commended the participants for their commitment and highlighted the dual nature of fire as both beneficial and potentially hazardous. He emphasized the importance of preventive measures, noting that despite FUNAAB's over thirty-year history, the university has only experienced minor fire incidents.

Prof. Adebayo stressed the need for trained personnel to effectively operate the newly acquired Fire Truck, especially given the geographic challenge of the nearest fire station being over 40 kilometers away. The training aims to equip participants with the skills to act as trainers and extend their knowledge to the wider university community of approximately 3,000 staff and over 22,000 students.

Mr. Seun Agbejobi, the Training Consultant from JOBI Consulting, detailed the training structure, which included both theoretical and practical components in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service. The schedule featured a squad drill, a fire drill with the new Fire Truck, and a final examination to assess the participants' competence. Mr. Agbejobi thanked the university management for their support and assured them of the training’s thoroughness and benefits.

Key attendees included Assistant Chief Environmental Officer (ACEO) Mr. Peter Bolarinwa, officers from the Federal Fire Service such as Deputy Superintendent of Fire (DSF) Abdullahi Garuba, DSF Agbede Olatunde, Fire Inspector Adesanya Korede, and Commandant Michael Agba from Sheriff Deputies Limited, along with key officers from the Environmental Unit.
