Modibbo Adama University Yola Celebrates Northern Nigeria’s First Post-Harvest Physiology and Storage Technologist
Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, has celebrated Professor Vadlya Tame as Northern Nigeria's first specialist in post-harvest physiology and storage technology. The university’s Registrar, Mallam Usman Mustaphar Maigawa, hailed the achievement as a boost to agricultural sustainability and economic growth, emphasizing the institution’s capacity to produce globally recognized experts.
Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, has achieved a remarkable milestone with the celebration of Professor Vadlya Tame as Northern Nigeria’s first-ever specialist in post-harvest physiology and storage technology. This groundbreaking achievement was highlighted during a ceremony where the Registrar of the institution, Mallam Usman Mustaphar Maigawa, praised the accomplishment as a significant contribution to agricultural sustainability and economic growth.
Mallam Maigawa commended the Department of Crop and Horticulture Production for its efforts in producing globally recognized resource persons capable of driving economic development. He noted that Professor Tame’s promotion to the rank of professor and his expertise in post-harvest technology have brought the university into the global spotlight.
“This achievement is a testament to MAU’s capacity to produce world-class professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the economy,” Maigawa stated. He urged Professor Tame to continue breaking new grounds in the field and to mentor students to ensure the sustainability of his innovative work.
In an interview with Tribune Online, Professor Tame expressed gratitude, attributing the milestone to the support of the university community and society at large. “This is not just about me but for the entire university community and society,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of his specialization, Professor Tame emphasized its potential to address the significant losses faced by farmers due to inadequate storage technology. “With my expertise, I hope to reduce wastage, improve the storage of farm produce, and contribute to the economic growth of our state and Nigeria at large,” he added.
Professor Tame, an alumnus of Federal University of Technology Yola (now Modibbo Adama University), expressed appreciation for his alma mater's role in his academic journey. He pledged to mentor aspiring students interested in the field of post-harvest physiology and storage technology, encouraging institutions to invest in academic research to drive innovation.
