FUNAAB Deputy Bursar, Wahab Azeez, Appointed Pioneer Bursar of Minaret University

Mr. Wahab Oloyede Azeez, a Deputy Bursar at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has been appointed as the pioneer Bursar, Minaret University (MU), a newly established faith-based institution in Ikirun, Osun State.

The appointment comes as the university, owned by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at of Nigeria, prepares to fully commence academic activities following its Federal approval earlier this year.

Mr. Azeez, a seasoned accountant with over three decades of experience in university financial management, brings a wealth of expertise to his newly appointed role. Mr. Azeez had previously held various leadership positions in the Bursary Department since joining FUNAAB in the early 1990s.

Mr. Azeez is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA). He holds an MSc in Accounting from Crescent University, Abeokuta, and a BSc in Accounting from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. His earlier qualifications included a Higher National Diploma and Ordinary National Diploma in Accountancy from Ogun State Polytechnic.

Mr. Azeez's extensive career at FUNAAB included roles such as Chief Accountant (Budget Implementation and Control, Coordinator of Final Accounts and College Finance, Principal Accountant in Payroll, and various positions in treasury reconciliation, expenditure control, and cash office management.

He has also contributed to community service, serving as Treasurer of the FUNAAB Muslim Community since 2011 and President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Camp/Obantoko since 2019, an alignment that resonates with MU's faith-based ethos.

The appointment of Mr. Azeez is seen as a strategic move to ensure robust financial stewardship as MU builds its administrative framework and welcomes its inaugural students.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has expressed confidence that his proven track record in budget control, financial reporting, and university administration would support MU's vision of producing well-rounded graduates equipped for national development. 

With the appointment, Mr. Azeez has joined over 18 staff members of FUNAAB who have gone to superintend over several institutions within and outside of Nigeria as Principal Officers in the last three years, while the development marks another milestone for the young institution as it establishes key leadership positions ahead of full operations."
