FUNAAB Graduate Earns PhD In Nutrition In US, Secures Assistant Professor Appointment

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has celebrated another international academic achievement as one of its distinguished alumni, Dr. Oyefunmilayo Amoda, earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Nutrition from Oregon State University, Corvallis, United States, and secured an appointment as an Assistant Professor at a prestigious American university.

Dr. Amoda’s achievement highlights FUNAAB’s contribution to producing globally competitive graduates equipped with research skills and academic excellence needed to succeed internationally.

She graduated from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at FUNAAB in 2021 with First Class Honours and was recognised as the Best Graduating Student in the department.

During her undergraduate studies, Dr. Amoda distinguished herself through outstanding academic performance and active involvement in research activities under the guidance of experienced academics at the university.

Her early research contributions focused on public health nutrition issues, including adolescent nutrition among students in Abeokuta schools and micronutrient adequacy among civil servants in Ogun State. Her work contributed to publications in reputable peer-reviewed nutrition journals.

The strong academic background and research experience she gained at FUNAAB helped her secure direct admission into a fully funded PhD programme at Oregon State University without requiring a Master’s degree, GRE, TOEFL or IELTS examinations. She also received an application fee waiver and the competitive Provost Distinguished Scholarship, awarded to students with exceptional academic and research potential.

During her doctoral programme, Dr. Amoda served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and conducted research on the epidemiological roles of nutritional factors in hypertension. Her work resulted in publications in international nutrition journals, with additional manuscripts undergoing peer review.

Following the completion of her doctoral studies, Dr. Amoda accepted an appointment as an Assistant Professor at a prestigious university in the United States, where she is expected to begin her academic career in the Fall of 2026.
