FUNAAB Grants Scholarship to Nigeria’s Sprinter Olayinka Olajide in Recognition of Outstanding Achievements

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has awarded a Masters Degree scholarship to Olayinka Olajide, a distinguished Nigerian sprinter who represented the country at the 2023 All African Games in Accra, Ghana.

In a remarkable display of recognition and appreciation, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has conferred a Masters Degree scholarship upon Miss Olayinka Olajide, Nigeria’s esteemed sprinter and representative at the 2023 All African Games in Accra, Ghana.

The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, during a special ceremony convened in his office to honor Miss Olajide’s exceptional accomplishments.

Acknowledging her as the Second Best Sprinter in Africa and the Best Sprinter in Nigeria, Prof. Kehinde underscored the significance of Miss Olajide’s contributions in bringing glory to FUNAAB on a continental scale.

In his address to the gathering, Prof. Kehinde highlighted Miss Olajide’s remarkable dedication and resilience in balancing her athletic pursuits with academic excellence, commending her for embodying the University’s values and encouraging her to persevere in her academic journey.

The Sports Director, Dr. Samuel Olabanji, also lauded Miss Olajide’s coach, Mr. Lekan Ajibote, for his steadfast dedication, and expressed appreciation to the University Management for their forward-thinking decision to bestow such a prestigious scholarship upon Miss Olajide. He affirmed FUNAAB’s commitment to nurturing talents and showcasing the University’s prowess on the global stage through sports.

In her response, Miss Olajide, fondly known as “AJ Gold,” expressed her surprise and gratitude for the scholarship, hailing it as a testament to FUNAAB’s unwavering support for student-athletes. She encouraged her peers to actively engage with their academic pursuits, emphasizing the importance of enthusiasm in achieving success both in academia and athletics.

Miss Olajide’s exceptional achievements include securing podium finishes in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and the 4×100 meters relay race at various international competitions, including the World Junior Athletic Championship in Nairobi, Kenya. As a recent graduate of the Department of Chemistry, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), her representation of Nigeria in the All African Games in Accra, Ghana, resulted in significant accolades, including a Bronze Medal in the 100 meters, a Silver Medal in the 200 meters, and a Gold Medal in the 4×100-meters relay race.
