FUNAAB Professor Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident, Community Demands Action
Professor Oladipo Ademuyiwa, a specialist in Biochemical Toxicology at FUNAAB, was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Kemta-Somorin road in Abeokuta.

A tragic incident has claimed the life of Professor Oladipo Ademuyiwa, a renowned specialist in Biochemical Toxicology at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The professor was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday along the Kemta-Somorin road in Abeokuta.
Ademuyiwa was reportedly crossing the road after stepping out of a cab when a speeding vehicle struck him. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving the university community and residents of the Ajebo Road housing estate in mourning.
The accident has reignited concerns over road safety in the area, with the local community development association condemning the lack of proactive measures to prevent such tragedies. Ayo Ajasa, chairman of the Ajebo Road housing estate community development association, described the incident as avoidable and blamed the Ogun State Government for failing to install speed breakers, despite multiple appeals.
According to Ajasa, previous requests for safety measures, such as speed breakers and traffic signs, have been ignored, even though similar installations were made on the Ilugun section of the road. He emphasized that reckless driving remains a major threat to pedestrians and called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent further loss of lives.
"It is unacceptable that a community of law-abiding citizens must endure repeated accidents, near-fatal encounters, and now the death of an esteemed professor, simply due to government inaction," Ajasa stated.
Within 24 hours of Ademuyiwa’s tragic death, another accident reportedly occurred on the same road, further fueling fears among residents. The community is now renewing its demand for urgent intervention from the government to enhance road safety and prevent further casualties.
