The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has expanded its international collaborations with a delegation visit from the University of Bundeswehr Munich (UNIBW.M), Germany. Led by Dr. Emmanuel Benjamin, the delegation met with FUNAAB’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, to explore partnerships in fisheries, urban, and rural development.

Professor Kehinde highlighted the significance of such collaborations in driving innovation and enhancing research, teaching, and community engagement efforts at FUNAAB. He emphasized the university’s readiness to adopt new ideas that would benefit both the institution and the broader community.

Dr. Benjamin shared UNIBW.M’s expertise in agricultural innovations, particularly in hydroponics and aquaponics, which have been successfully applied in six countries to address food insecurity. The collaboration aims to explore sustainable food production techniques, even in limited spaces.

Representatives from AGLOBE Development Centre, a Lagos-based NGO, also contributed to the discussions, with Ethics Manager Mr. Abiola Adegoke outlining their efforts in tackling urban food insecurity through small-scale farming solutions.

Director of IFSERAR, Professor Alaba Jolaoso, expressed appreciation for the Vice-Chancellor's support and emphasized the potential of this partnership to advance fisheries and rural development efforts, further aligning with global goals to combat food insecurity.

The German delegation is set to conclude its visit on Friday, October 18, 2024.
