Following his election at the School’s Board of Studies meeting, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, has approved the appointment of Professor Olayemi Simon-Oke of the Department of Economics as the Dean, School of Logistics and Innovations Technology, SLIT for a term of two years effective August 1, 2023.
Professor Simon-Oke had his elementary education at UAMC Primary School, Ebute-Metta (West), Lagos, January 1971- June 1976 and Lagos Secondary Commercial Academy, Ilupeju, Lagos, September 1976-June 1981. He also attended Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, September 1983-June 1985 for his Higher School Certificate (HSC) before proceeding to the Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University), Ado Ekiti, for a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, 1991-1997. He crowned it with Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Ado Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) in 2003 and 2008 respectively.
Professor Simon-Oke started his teaching career as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Economics, University of Ado Ekiti between October 2000 and March 2005 and became an Assistant Lecturer, March 2005 to May 2008; Lecturer II, May 2008 to September 2011 before joining the services of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) as a Lecturer I in the Department of Project Management Technology (PMT) in October, 2011.
He served as Senior Lecturer from October, 2014 to November, 2015 in the Department of Project Management Technology and Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, November 2015 to October 2017; Reader, Department of Economics, 0ctober 2017- September 2020 and became a Professor in October 2020 till date.
A renowned academic, Simon-Oke has published many Journal articles in local and international journals, attended several conferences and seminars in addition to supervising and co-supervising several undergraduate and post graduate students. He served as Coordinator, Diploma in Economics and Statistics, Department of Economics and Coordinator, Post Graduate programme, Department of Economics at the University of Ado Ekiti. He also served as Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Economics, College of Education, Ikere Ekiti (2013-2014) and Department of Economics, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti (2016-2019).
Outside the university, he has served as Economic Analyst, Department for International Development (DFID) on Family Health Programme in Ekiti State; Evaluation Officer, World Bank assisted project on the review of public expenditure for Ekiti State government; Project Coordinator, Rural Literacy and Empowerment Initiatives in Badagry Local Government of Lagos State among others.
Simon-Oke who has won several TET Fund research grants is a member of professional bodies like the Institute of Debt Recovery Practitioners of Nigeria; Nigerian Institute of Management; Institute of Development Finance and Project Management; European Centre for Research Training and Development, United Kingdom and the International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS), Japan.
He is married with children.
