FUTA Holds 186th Inaugural Lecture on Nigeria’s Forest Conservation Challenges

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), is set to host its 186th Inaugural Lecture titled “The Nigerian Unprotected Protected Areas: Forest Conservation and Assessment, the Conditio Sine Qua Non.”

FUTA Holds 186th Inaugural Lecture on Nigeria’s Forest Conservation Challenges

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), is set to host its 186th Inaugural Lecture titled “The Nigerian Unprotected Protected Areas: Forest Conservation and Assessment, the Conditio Sine Qua Non.”

The lecture will be delivered by Professor Victor Ajibola Adekunle, a renowned Professor of Forest Inventory and Ecology in the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, FUTA.

The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium, Federal University of Technology, Akure. Proceedings will commence at 3:00 p.m. prompt, and guests are expected to be seated by 2:45 p.m.

The lecture will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, FAS, while the Registrar, Mr. C. O. Adeleye, will serve as the event’s convener and official signatory.

Professor Adekunle, who holds degrees from the University of Ibadan and FUTA, is a distinguished scholar with extensive contributions to forest conservation, sustainability, and ecosystem management in Nigeria and beyond.

The upcoming lecture is expected to offer critical insights into the paradox of Nigeria’s “unprotected protected areas” and underscore the importance of sustainable forest management as a national and global imperative.
