FUTA Launches Anti-Corruption Unit in Partnership with ICPC to Foster Transparency and Integrity
Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
In a significant move towards promoting transparency and combating corruption, the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in collaboration with officials from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

During the inauguration ceremony held on May 7th, 2024, the Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Adenike Oladiji, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Timothy Amos, emphasized the urgent need for a collective effort in the fight against corruption. She highlighted the detrimental effects of corruption on the Nigerian economy, citing examples of defunct government investments and the imperative for responsible resource management.
Addressing the attendees, Vice Chancellor Oladiji underscored the importance of addressing corrupt practices within organizations, emphasizing the contagious nature of unethical behaviors. She commended the university officials selected to lead the ACTU, emphasizing the pivotal role they would play in promoting a culture of transparency and accountability.

In a goodwill message, Mr. Kayode Kupolati, the Resident Anti-corruption Commissioner for Ondo State, praised FUTA's commitment to combatting corruption and hailed the inauguration of the ACTU as a significant step towards institutionalizing anti-corruption measures. He highlighted the role of the ACTU in sensitizing staff on corruption, monitoring implementation procedures, and conducting preliminary investigations into complaints.
Mr. Suleiman Achile, Assistant Commissioner of ICPC, Ondo State, provided an overview of the ACTU's mandate and standing orders, emphasizing its role as a mechanism for implementing anti-corruption measures. He outlined the unit's responsibilities, including preliminary investigations, ethics and compliance monitoring, and public enlightenment initiatives.
The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the oath of office to the newly inaugurated members of the ACTU by Barrister Kehinde Adetoye. The members, carefully selected by the Vice Chancellor, include distinguished individuals from various departments within the university.
