FUTA Student Johnson Akindutire Crowned Entrepreneur of the Year, Wins N1 Million Prize

Johnson Akindutire, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has been declared the winner of the FUTARIAN Entrepreneur of the Year competition.

Johnson Akindutire, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has been declared the winner of the FUTARIAN Entrepreneur of the Year competition.

The event, themed “The Certification Before Satisfaction”, was organized by FUTA alumnus, Pastor Titilayo Femi-Kings, on 22nd August 2025. Akindutire was awarded the title of Entrepreneurial King and received a cash prize of N1 million, while the first and second runners-up received N500,000 and N400,000 respectively. Other participants were given consolation awards.

The competition aimed to encourage undergraduates to pursue business ventures and entrepreneurial initiatives while still in school, attracting numerous students who pitched innovative business ideas.

Akindutire, founder of Hollux Creation, revealed plans to invest in an industrial tapping machine and fund the production of Hollux Premium T-shirts, which are set to launch next year. He expressed gratitude to the organizers and FUTA management for providing a platform to grow his business.

Convener Pastor Titilayo Femi-Kings, of Christ Apostolic Church Kingstream, shared his personal experience as an undergraduate balancing studies in Physics Electronics with public speaking and entrepreneurship. He urged students to continue pursuing their passions while maintaining academic excellence.

Other alumni in attendance, including Engr. Adeyemi Bello, CEO Chikini Monie, Abula Backyard, Olaitan Adesomoju MD Oray Continental Business and Oil & Gas Nig Ltd, and a University of Lagos alumnus CEO Shoespeed, encouraged students to seize opportunities, avoid distractions, and build skills that prepare them for the future.

Represented by Engr. Adeyemi Bello, Vice-Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji commended the initiative for giving back to the university and inspiring students. She encouraged the winners to utilize their prizes wisely and urged all students to leverage their courses to become entrepreneurs and employers of labor rather than relying solely on white-collar employment.

The event, which filled a 2,500-capacity auditorium, underscored the commitment of FUTA alumni and management to nurturing the next generation of student entrepreneurs while promoting innovation, responsibility, and purposeful action.
