FUTMINNA and Federal Medical Centre Bida Partner to Launch School of Medical Science and Health Technology

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) and the Federal Medical Centre, Bida (FMCB) have teamed up to establish a School of Medical Science and Health Technology, enhancing FMCB's status as a University Teaching Hospital.

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has entered into a partnership with the Federal Medical Centre, Bida (FMCB) to establish a School of Medical Science and Health Technology at the university. This initiative aims to upgrade FMCB into a University Teaching Hospital.

The decision was made during an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, attended by representatives from the university's management, FMCB, and the League of Friends of FMCB. The meeting took place at the Centre's Board Room in Bida, Niger State.

Leading the university's delegation, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta expressed confidence in the Centre's infrastructure, training facilities, and personnel to support the establishment of a Teaching Hospital. He assured attendees that the university is committed to leveraging the Centre's potential to achieve these objectives.

Dr. Abubakar Usman, the Medical Director of FMCB, confirmed the Centre's readiness to serve as a teaching hospital, highlighting its robust staff strength of 1,950, advanced medical equipment, and skilled healthcare providers. Many of these providers serve as examiners at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) and the West African Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons (WACP/WACS), underscoring their capability to train future doctors.

Prof. Jerry Gana, Chairman of the League of Friends of FMCB, emphasized that the Centre is well-equipped for the transition into a teaching hospital. He noted that FUTMINNA is a suitable partner in achieving this critical goal for the healthcare sector.
