FUTMINNA Sign MoU to Boost Mathematics Education

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Abuja, to strengthen mathematics education and research in Nigeria.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, emphasized the importance of mathematics in national development, expressing concern over the declining interest in the subject among young Nigerians. He noted that mathematics is crucial for science, innovation, and national progress, but is often viewed with fear by students.

The MoU aims to train high-level manpower in Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics Education through postgraduate programs, staff and student exchange, and joint research activities. FUT Minna will provide resource persons and academic frameworks, while NMC will coordinate funding and host programs.

Prof. Kuta assured the university's readiness to implement the MoU, highlighting FUT Minna's steady growth and recent ranking among Nigeria's top universities. The partnership seeks to address the decline of mathematical sciences in Nigeria and build capacity in areas like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Theoretical Physics .
