Gov Abiodun Awards N2m Each to OOU's Best Graduating Students

Governor Abiodun made this announcement during the university's combined 32nd and 33rd convocation ceremonies, represented by his deputy, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele. Alongside the N2 million award, the governor also presented N500,000 to the best graduating student in each faculty of the institution.

In a bid to promote academic excellence, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, announced the award of N2 million each to the overall best graduating students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye. The recipients of this prestigious award for the 2021/2022 academic session were Talabi Hazeem Ayomide, Adesanya Ibrahim Damilola, and Alabi Ifeoluwa, who achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.86. Similarly, Adegoke Azizat was recognized as the overall best graduating student for the 2022/2023 academic session with a remarkable CGPA of 4.90.

The convocation ceremonies, culminating in the award of Masters degrees and honorary doctorates, witnessed the conferment of Doctor Science (honoris causa) on distinguished individuals including the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo land, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, and former pro-chancellor of the university, Mrs. Mosun Bello Olusoga.

In his address at the event, Vice-Chancellor Professor Ayodeji Agboola congratulated the graduands and expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his support. He highlighted the university's commitment to excellence, citing its recent addition of ten new academic programs aimed at positioning OOU as a globally recognized institution.

The convocation lecture, delivered by eminent lawyer Chief Wole Olanipekun, focused on the challenges of human capital emigration in Nigeria and the imperative of restructuring for national progress. Notably, Abikoye Ezekiel Olabode, aged 71, stood out among the graduands, earning a PhD in Christian Religious Studies.

In conclusion, Governor Abiodun's recognition and reward of academic excellence underscore his administration's commitment to promoting scholarship and fostering educational development in Ogun State.
