Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has approved the release of over N340 million for the restoration of electricity at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina (UMYUK). This decision is aimed at addressing recent power outages and enhancing security measures at the state-owned institution.

In a statement released on Saturday, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua, Director of Press in the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), detailed the allocation. The funds will be directed towards two major electricity projects: the replacement of a 33KVA indoor control panel and related accessories, costing over N260 million, and the installation of solar security lights, valued at over N98 million.

Aliyu-Yar’adua emphasized that the governor's approval is a proactive response to the university’s power challenges and recent security concerns. The SSG, Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, highlighted the governor's commitment to restoring a conducive learning environment and supporting the institution's operational needs.

Governor Radda's decision comes in response to the university's extended mid-semester break due to power supply issues. The university senate, in a recent meeting, reviewed the situation and found that the previously scheduled resumption date of Monday, September 16, was no longer feasible. The resumption will be postponed until electricity supply is fully restored.
