Governor Fubara Pledges Support for Rivers State University's Excellence

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has assured the Rivers State University (RSU) of enhanced financial and other forms of support to elevate the institution's standing among Nigeria's best. The governor made this commitment during the 35th convocation ceremony at the RSU Convocation Arena in Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt.

The governor commended RSU's leadership for adopting a result-oriented approach, leading to notable successes and full accreditation for all programs. He pledged to release approved grants by December 18, 2023, and highlighted the state's 2024 budget, where education received the third-highest allocation. The resources will address critical challenges, including campus development, stable power supply, student hostels, and enhanced CCTV coverage for safety.
Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, the Vice Chancellor of RSU, reported that 6,326 graduates received first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, Masters, and Doctor of Philosophy during the convocation. He highlighted the university's achievements, such as full accreditation for all 24 programs, increased admission quotas for key programs, and operational satellite campuses.

Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad 1, the Chancellor of the University and Emir of Lafia Bare-Bari, emphasized the need for adequate funding of tertiary institutions to facilitate research addressing Nigeria's developmental needs.
