During the ceremony, diplomas and certificates were awarded to 4,888 graduates from six sets spanning from 2019 to 2023. These included Higher National Diplomas (HND), National Diplomas (ND), and National Certificates in Education (NCE).

Governor Nasir Idris Honored with Fellowship Award by Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic

The Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic in Birnin Kebbi has conferred its fellowship award on Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, recognizing his significant contributions to educational development and service to humanity. The awards were presented during the institution's 14th Joint Convocation ceremony held on Tuesday.

In addition to Governor Idris, Alhaji AbdulSamad Isiyaku Rabiu, founder of BUA Group, and the late Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed, were also honored with fellowship awards. The late Emir's award was given posthumously.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, attended the event as the Special Guest of Honour. In his address, Abbas urged the graduates to become job creators rather than waiting for government employment. "You should be job providers and not those waiting for elusive white-collar jobs," he said, emphasizing the practical skills and knowledge the students had acquired.

Abbas praised the institution's progress and achievements and encouraged the management to maintain its high standards. He also lauded Governor Idris, describing him as a reliable leader and congratulated him on receiving the fellowship award.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu, reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the education sector.

The Rector of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Dr. Usman Tunga, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the National Assembly for additional funding, which has enhanced the institution's infrastructure and academic capabilities. He highlighted the polytechnic's designation as a Centre of Excellence in Renewable Energy and announced its new affiliation with the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, to offer BSc degree courses in various fields.
