FUTO Partners with Victoria Nwaeke Foundation to Digitize Learning

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) in Imo State has announced a partnership with the Victoria Nwaeke Foundation to fully digitalize learning at the university. The foundation also revealed its efforts to significantly reduce breast cancer in society. Obinna Ama, the founder of the Victoria Nwaeke Foundation, highlighted the foundation’s dedication to ensuring FUTO is fully digitized. He also mentioned the foundation’s commitment to reducing breast cancer in the country, noting successful anti-breast cancer programs in three local government areas of Borno State.

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) in Imo State has announced a partnership with the Victoria Nwaeke Foundation to fully digitalize learning at the university. The foundation also revealed its efforts to significantly reduce breast cancer in society.

During the recent handing-over ceremony of a simulation laboratory gifted to the Department of Biomedical Engineering at FUTO by the Victoria Nwaeke Foundation, FUTO Vice Chancellor, Prof Nnennaya Oti expressed the university's commitment to collaborating with interested parties to advance learning and research endeavors within the institution.

Represented by Prof. Sylvester Alisi, the VC expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, “We are grateful to the Victoria Nwaeke Foundation for donating such a digitalized laboratory to us. We are happy because the Founder of the foundation was once our student. Giving back to the school that shaped his destiny is wonderful. We promise to make good use of this simulation laboratory to improve learning and research in the school.”

Represented by the foundation’s secretary, Ijeoma Ogbonnah, Ama explained, “The Victoria-Nwaeke Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to advancing healthcare through technology in Africa, founded by Obinna Ama. We collaborate with a wide network of partners.

Ama elaborated on the goals for the FUTO Simulation Laboratory, stating, “For the FUTO Simulation Laboratory, we aim to empower the next generation of biomedical engineers by establishing a state-of-the-art Biomedical Engineering Simulation and Computational Laboratory, fostering innovation, collaboration, and impactful research to improve human health. 

He added that the laboratory would serve as a one-stop shop for clinical and health research data, including non-identifiable patient data, genomics data, neuroscience data, and registry data. The laboratory is equipped with computer hardware and software licenses (MATLAB, R, CADs, Solidworks, etc.), virtual reality headsets, and a short demo on the simulation of human anatomy.
