Governor Radda Honoured with Honorary Doctorate at UMYU; Approves Salaries and Best Graduand Incentives

At the 14th Convocation Ceremony of Umaru Musa Yar'adua University (UMYU) held on February 7, 2026, Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration. 

In a series of landmark announcements aimed at rewarding academic excellence and boosting staff morale, the Governor introduced several key incentives:

Automatic Employment: Best graduating students across the university will receive automatic jobs in the state civil service upon completion of their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Best Graduand Rewards: The overall best graduating student was awarded a brand-new vehicle, while best graduating students from every department received a ₦100,000 cash prize.

Staff Salary Review: Governor Radda approved an upward salary increment for both academic and non-academic staff of the university, citing it as a "token of appreciation" for their dedication to the institution.

Accreditation Support: He announced the immediate release of funds for the accreditation of several university programmes to ensure they meet both national and international standards.

University Growth and Recognition

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Salihu Muhammad, noted that UMYU has grown to accommodate over 20,000 students and currently offers 117 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This year's convocation celebrated 2,682 graduands, including 31 first-class degree holders. 

Other honorary degree recipients at the ceremony included the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa'i Abubakar, and the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nigeria, Ali bin Ghanem Al-Hajri.
