Governor Sule Unveils New Security Measures at NSUK Gudi Campus After Students’ Abduction

Governor of Nasarawa State and Visitor to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, has announced fresh security measures for the institution’s Gudi Campus following the abduction of engineering students from an off-campus lodge in the area.

The governor made this known during a high-level security and stakeholders’ meeting held at the Gudi Campus on Friday, May 8, 2026, involving the university management, security chiefs, parents of the abducted students, and other government officials.

The incident, which involved students of the Faculty of Engineering, has sparked widespread concern across the university community and Nasarawa State, with calls intensifying for stronger security around the campus environment.

Addressing stakeholders during the meeting, Governor Sule sympathised with the affected families and assured them that the state government, working closely with security agencies, is making every effort to ensure the safe rescue of the students.

As part of immediate interventions aimed at addressing security challenges around the campus, the governor disclosed plans by the state government to construct additional hostel accommodation within the Gudi Campus. According to him, the move is intended to reduce the number of students residing in vulnerable off-campus locations considered prone to security threats.

Governor Sule also highlighted existing security infrastructure already deployed around the campus. These include a security checkpoint directly in front of the institution, an additional mobile police checkpoint positioned ahead of the campus, and a nearby police station serving the area.

He further revealed that the ongoing construction of a police secondary school within the Gudi axis forms part of broader efforts by the state government to strengthen security presence and protect lives and property within the community.

Among top government officials present at the meeting were the Commissioner for Education, the Commissioner of Police, representatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), alongside other relevant stakeholders.

Discussions at the meeting focused largely on strategies to secure the safe return of the abducted students and additional measures required to improve security within and around the university environment.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, alongside members of the institution’s management team and government officials, also met with students during the visit to reassure them and calm growing tensions on campus.

Students were urged to remain peaceful, security conscious, and focused on their academic activities, while avoiding actions capable of disrupting public order or undermining ongoing rescue efforts.

University authorities and security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order on campus while intensifying operations aimed at securing the release of the abducted students.

The Nasarawa State Government reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property, assuring residents and the university community that efforts would continue until the students are safely reunited with their families.
