The Special Assistant to the Governor of the State on security matters, Mr. John Enamuotor made this pledge on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Professor Andy Egwunyenga on Wednesday.
Mr. Enamuotor, an alumnus of DELSU, who led a five-man team to the visit, emphasized the importance of security in any human community, adding that, “we want to work with you to improve the security of this place”.

The Special Adviser said he had set up a six-man committee to begin to urgently address some security concerns in Abraka and environs but remarked that their operations were being hampered by poor logistics, an area he believed the University could be of assistance.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor (Mrs) Rosemary Okoh said that their mission was an important one, since security issues had always been very serious matters, especially in a University environment with young and easily excitable persons. “Some are here to study, while some are here for other reasons. Such a situation creates insecurity in the community”, she observed.
The soft-spoken Professor of Agricultural Economics added that even at the national level insecurity had been a major challenge, but added that the good leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and measures taken had improved security in the University community.
She also cited the God factor which had helped the administration to succeed, despite challenges, adding that she was happy that outsiders were aware of the modest efforts of the University administration. She promised that the Vice-Chancellor would improve on what he was already doing to enhance the security of the University community.
In another courtesy call at the same venue, the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental students, DELSU Chapter presented an Honorary award plaque of excellence to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga for his outstanding contributions to the Federation. Presenting the award plaque to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor (Mrs) Rosemary Okoh who represented the Vice-Chancellor, the President of the Federation, Miss Ejiro Onobrudu, a 600-level medical student said Professor Egwunyenga had been like a father to them. “We came to appreciate him for all he has done for us”, she noted.
