Great Futarians Win 2nd Place in Prestigious Geology Competition and Donate Prize for Departmental Upgrades

In a remarkable display of both academic excellence and philanthropy, a group of outstanding students from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has achieved an impressive feat. These exceptional "Futarians" secured second place in the 2023 Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) competition, organized by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) in April 2023.
The Imperial Barrel Award competition is a highly regarded event in the field of geology, challenging teams of students from universities around the world to analyze and interpret geological data, presenting their findings to a panel of industry experts. Futarians emerged as shining stars in this prestigious competition.
What makes this achievement even more commendable is the selfless act that followed their victory. Instead of keeping their hard-earned $500 prize, these dedicated students decided to contribute to the betterment of their department. They donated the entire prize money towards upgrading equipment in the Department of Geology at FUTA.
