Governing Councils for Universities, Polytechnics Set for Inauguration on July 4th
President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of Governing Councils and Boards for federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country. The inauguration of these councils will take place on July 4th, 2024. The inauguration ceremony is expected to take place at the National Universities Commission (NUC) headquarters in Abuja

This announcement comes after Professor Aisha Maikudi, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, revealed the news during her acceptance speech. A total of 560 individuals have been appointed to oversee the various institutions.

The move aims to strengthen the management of Nigerian tertiary institutions, according to an earlier statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Notable Appointments:
- University of Ibadan: Chief Bisi Akande (Chair), Alexander Ajipe, Nelson Alapa, Ifeoma Nwankwo, Prof. Emmanuel Alo
- University of Lagos: Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) (Chair), Bello Kumo, Prof. Idowu Mark, Niyi Akande, Bola Njoku
- National Open University: Isa Yuguda (Chair), Goddy Etta, Yomi Balogun, Deborah Apah, Hingah Biem
- Obafemi Awolowo University: Siyan Oyeweso (Chair), Edward Sarki, Joseph Abaagu, Wahaab Owokoniran, Abubakar Kachaalla
There are also additional appointments made for institutions like David Umahi University of Medicine, Federal University of Transportation, and Federal Polytechnic in Ugep.
