Six FUOYE Graduates Win Prestigious PhD Scholarships in U.S. and Brazil

Six graduates from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State have secured doctoral degree scholarships and research assistantship positions at prestigious universities in the United States and Brazil. This accomplishment has been celebrated by the university's Vice-Chancellor.

The recipients are from the Faculties of Science and Engineering. Notable among them is Afolabi Mojibola Esther, FUOYE’s best-graduating student in Geology in 2022. Others include Mariam Okunade, Adeleye Blessing, and Toyin Sunday, who all graduated with first-class honors in Industrial Chemistry from the Faculty of Science.

From the Faculty of Engineering, the awardees are Alabi Johnson Sunday, a former FUOYE SUG President who graduated in 2021 and won a PhD scholarship with a research assistantship at Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA; Adejumo Olarenwaju Oluwaseyi of the 2020/2021 academic session; and Adele Emmanuel Oluwademilo, who graduated with second-class upper honors and secured an MSc/PhD scholarship at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil.

Professor Olayide Lawal, former Dean of the Faculty of Science and current Director of the Directorate of Research Innovation and Linkage Programme (DRILP) at FUOYE, praised the students for their dedication and hard work. He noted that the students showed serious commitment to their studies, were actively involved in tutorial classes, and avoided social media distractions. Vice-Chancellor Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina congratulated the students, emphasizing that their success highlights the quality of education at FUOYE and wishing them continued success in their future endeavors.

In addition to this academic achievement, FUOYE celebrated the election of Miss Abiodun Olorunshola Mary as the first female Student Union Government (SUG) President-elect in Southwest Nigeria. Professor Fasina expressed pride in the university's commitment to gender sensitivity and wished her a fulfilling and progressive tenure.
